Debunking ragebait about today’s XRP ‘unlock’
Every month, for years, influencers have farmed engagement with ragebait about 1 billion XRP ‘unlocking’ from escrow.
“1 billion XRP unlocking today” is the ragebaiting, claptraping headline that earns mindless applause from our critics for years.
Nevermind that it’s totally fake.
I want you to understand this simple narrative to be able to debunk it instantly, whenever you see it regurgitated on social media or published online by some slop canon.
As usual, Ripple released one billion XRP from its pre-programmed escrow this morning. Right on schedule, the same way they have on the first of every month since 2017.
On schedule, your social feed fills up with words like “dump,” “fresh supply,” or “massive selling.”
One billion XRP sounds terrifying. At today’s price near $1.30, that headline reads like $1.3 billion in added pressure weighing on your bag before lunch.
The ragebait writes itself, and uninformed accounts clap to the trap.
The part they leave out? That billy almost never actually hits the market.
Most of it goes right back into escrow within days. The scary 1 billion is the number that never actually happens, and is totally fake
